My teacher and I haven't discussed in great detail exactly what I will be teaching in the spring, but she did give me a list of the required texts and the time periods usually covered in 12th grade English for the regular, honors and AP classes. The focus is really on the time periods so these are the time periods covered in the spring...
1. The Romantic Period- poetry; Keats, Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Shelley or Byron; Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde for regular/honors; Frankenstein for honors/AP
2. The Victorian Period- Austen, Dickens, short stories, poetry, Bronte
3. The Modern Period- Lord of the Flies, 1984, Brave New World, On the Beach, Lord Jim, Animal Farm
Many of these texts are new to me as my AP instruction skewed away from the norm and had very little to do with British Literature. My thesis in undergrad was on Austen, so I would feel most comfortable with that text and the other Victorian Period texts.
